  • Epic Overlanding Trail between CO & UT. Famous Kokopelli Trail Leg 1 of 3

We knew that driving our AWD Ford Transit on the Kokopelli Trail from Loma, CO to Moab, UT would be quite challenging, and it was! The first and second legs were the hardest. Our van wasn’t lifted yet and wasn’t until Leg 3, but we really needed that lift before Leg 2!

Gaia Maps link for all 3 legs.

  • Overlanding Shafer Switchbacks In A Storm!

It was a scary ride but both the AWD Ford Transit with KO2 tires and Katya’s excellent driving got us safely to the bottom. We had a precious reserved campsite in Canyonlands National Park and we were determined to get there. Check out our campsite!

  • Upholstered Transit Van Build-out

The Prestons didn’t want a motor home crammed into a short van. The design objectives were based on a light weight off-road capable AWD Ford Transit. It would be for camping, not RV parks, so no galley or built-in toilet and shower. Portable would be fine.

A couple of years after this video they added a cabinet in the sliding door area for more convenient storage, changed the table to a Lagun swing table, and replaced the Yeti ice chest with a 12 volt refrigerator. Jim installed a Victron 12 volt electrical system with a LiFePO4 290 AH battery to support the fridge, LED lighting, charging devices, and the Propex propane space heater. They can park 5 days without recharging the battery. Since they rarely park that long they don’t need solar at this time.
