We wanted to see what is in Anza Borrego State Park in Southern California. Why is it popular for overlanding and off-roading? It is fun to drive the canyons and beautiful! And at least on our route a lifted AWD or 4×4 Sprinter or Transit can do it with no serious challenges. We wished we could have camped out there but had friends waiting for us in Joshua Tree National Park.

Overlanding Four Peaks Superstition Mountains Arizona – Big Views, Scenic, Saquaro Cactus!
I know, weird for us to shoot a video that is calm, where we aren’t facing death by rolling down a cliff, and that everyone can drive and enjoy. But, it happens. Relax and enjoy!

Arizona Scary Routes – Montana Mountain Loop Superstition Mountains Overlanding
What an adventure! The once graded road was washed out in many places and quite challenging. It was rare to find a place to turn around and retreat so no choice but to keep going forward. The choice here was to go slow and maybe roll sideways down the mountain side or hit the gas and somewhat jump it. The traction boards may have helped but the washout was so deep they probably wouldn’t have helped enough. The van handled all the washouts rather well, except the soft dirt and big rocks in combination was challenging at times.

Overlanding the Superstition Mountains Arizona! – Scenic Two Bar Ridge & Deer Hill
Big mountains, big views, cactus, a live stream, and two lakes. The tread was rocky and often steep but not too technical. We didn’t find the Lost Dutchman Mine.

Arizona Scary Routes – Overlanding Silver Creek Trail
The route I planned seemed easy. I was alone so sure, be extra careful. Except, I’m still me and manage to get into trouble even when trying not to. The route started off easy. Then a climb up a lava boulder hillside was crazy hard! When I tried to escape the Silver Creek trail I went down Indian Creek and into trouble. Watch our van do amazing feats, and suffer a bit.

Overlanding Bears Ears Leg 4 – Hite to Natural Bridges
The once Lake Powell marina at Hite on the Colorado River is near the west side of Bears Ears National Monument. We needed to see what is out there! We left UT 95 near Hite and headed east across prairie and high country to eventually return to UT 95 near Natural Bridges National Monument. It is a great drive and at least when we did it in October 2024 the roads were mostly graded and any vehicle with 6 inches or more clearance could do them.

Overlanding Bears Ears Utah Leg 3 Cedar Mesa, Muley Point, Moki Dugway, Valley Of The Gods!
Join us for another leg of exploring the huge Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. In Part 3 we explore south of SR 95. This trip can be done by almost any vehicle with 7″ of minimum clearance – BUT, conditions and road quality can change during and after storms. Call the BLM and also be prepared to retreat to a different route. SR 261 is paved and a good alternative to Comb Wash and Snow Flat Roads.

Overlanding Bears Ears Utah Leg 1 – Lockhart Basin

Only the northern third is highly technical and the rest is an amazing place to explore! Join our adventure in this video.
